One of the things that will really surprise you when you file bankruptcy and receive your discharge, is the number of offers of new credit you will receive. From a creditor’s perspective, you are a wonderful person. You have employment, you have income and you owe no one a dime, typically, so you are the perfect borrower. At this point, we see this happening about three months after the bankruptcy is filed. For many people, you can obtain a new mortgage two years after your discharge is granted, provided you’ve made timely payments on any of your new debt. Bankruptcy is a powerful tool for recovering your finances and your credit rating.
